Microsoft Copilot is an AI assistant deeply embedded throughout the Microsoft 365 suite of productivity applications. It leverages large language models combined with the Microsoft Graph to provide contextual AI assistance in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and other Microsoft applications. Users can draft documents, summarize emails, analyze spreadsheets, generate presentations, and automate complex workflows using natural language prompts. Key features include document drafting and rewriting in Word, data analysis and formula generation in Excel, presentation creation in PowerPoint, email summarization and drafting in Outlook, meeting summaries and action items in Teams, and cross-application workflow automation through Copilot Studio. The AI draws on organizational data stored in Microsoft Graph to provide personalized, context-aware responses. Microsoft maintains an extensive security and compliance infrastructure with certifications including SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27018, ISO 27701, and FedRAMP High. The platform supports GDPR, HIPAA, and numerous other regulatory frameworks. Data processed by Copilot stays within the Microsoft 365 compliance boundary and inherits existing security policies.
