About D-ID

D-ID was founded in 2017 in Tel Aviv by Gil Perry, Eliran Kuta, and Sella Blondheim. The company originally focused on facial recognition privacy (de-identification technology) before pivoting to AI-generated talking avatars. The platform enables users and developers to create photorealistic talking head videos from still images combined with text or audio input. Use cases include personalised video messaging, L&D training content, customer support avatars, and marketing videos. The API has been used by over 280,000 developers and has produced more than 200 million videos. D-ID raised $48 million in total funding from investors including Pitango Venture Capital, Macquarie Group, and notably AXA Venture Partners (the venture arm of the French insurance group AXA), providing a European investor connection. The Creative Reality Studio (web interface) enables non-technical users to create avatar videos, while the API provides programmatic access for enterprises integrating talking avatars into their products. For European businesses, D-ID's Israeli incorporation places it outside the EU but Israel has an EU adequacy decision for data protection.
