Zeni was founded in 2019 with the mission of giving startups access to the same quality of financial operations infrastructure that large enterprises have, powered by AI rather than large finance teams. The platform combines automated bookkeeping, accounts payable, expense management, payroll integration, financial reporting, and fractional CFO services into a single monthly subscription. Zeni's AI processes all financial transactions as they occur—bank feeds, credit card transactions, bills, invoices, payroll data—categorises them, reconciles accounts, and maintains up-to-date financial statements without month-end delays. The AI Copilot feature enables founders and operators to query their financial data in natural language ('What was our burn rate last quarter?', 'Which department has the highest expenses?'). Zeni also provides a dedicated team of human finance professionals who review AI-processed transactions and provide advisory support. The platform serves primarily US-based startups but has expanded to serve some international customers. For European businesses, Zeni's US incorporation (California) and US-based data processing present GDPR compliance considerations—financial data processed by Zeni may include personal data of employees, suppliers, and clients. European organisations would need SCCs and appropriate transfer mechanisms. Zeni does not publish ISO 27001 or SOC 2 Type II certifications prominently as of early 2026, which limits its suitability for regulated European financial services firms.
