Nscale was founded in 2023 and has rapidly become one of Europe's most significant AI infrastructure companies. The company builds and operates GPU cloud data centres designed specifically for AI workloads, with a focus on European sovereignty and sustainable energy. Nscale's primary infrastructure is located in Norway, with facilities in Glomfjord, Skien, and the ambitious 'Stargate Norway' project in Narvik. All Norwegian facilities are powered by renewable hydropower, giving Nscale a strong sustainability narrative alongside its sovereignty positioning. A UK facility in Loughton, Essex is also planned. In March 2026, Nscale raised $2 billion in Series C funding at a $14.6 billion valuation, making it one of Europe's most valuable AI companies. The round was led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, with strategic investors including Nvidia, Nokia, Dell, and Lenovo. Total funding exceeds $3 billion. For European businesses and AI companies, Nscale addresses a critical gap: access to large-scale GPU compute without dependency on US hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP). This is increasingly important as the EU AI Act enforcement approaches and organisations assess their AI supply chain sovereignty. As an infrastructure provider, Nscale does not process end-user data or train AI models—it provides the compute on which customers run their own workloads. UK incorporation means GDPR adequacy applies but CLOUD Act exposure exists for UK-hosted workloads.
